Abstract

1,194,992. Mattresses. O. P. MOLT. 13 Dec., 1968 [28 Dec., 1967], No. 59416/68. Heading A4M. A mattress comprises a core of interconnected compression springs 11 surrounded by, and anchored on all sides to, a bed frame 1 formed with upper and lower longitudinal grooves 6, 7 and includes flexible, resilient plastics tension members 20 for securing edge springs 11 to the frame 1, each tension member 20 having at one end a hook 21 engaged in a corner of a planar, polygonal end turn 12 or 13 of a spring 11 and at the other end a head 23 anchored in a frame groove 6 or 7. The frame 1 is formed of sheet metal bent into hollow, rectangular cross-section with overlapping, interfitting edges 8, 9 at a corner of the section. A plurality of tension members 20 may have their heads 23 interconnected by stays (25, Fig. 3). The tension members 20 for use in the lower groove 7 are provided on their underside, beneath the head 23, with a hook (26, Fig. 4) to receive an anchoring member (28) secured to an edge of an upholstery cover (27).
