Abstract

1,194,482. Photoconductive material. EASTMAN KODAK CO. 12 Jan., 1968 [13 Jan., 1967], No. 1876/68. Heading H1K. The photoconductivity of a vacuum-deposited CdS layer is modified by exposing the layer to the vapour of either a cuprous halide or a silver halide at an elevated temperature and under reduced pressure. The CdS layer may be deposited on a substrate of quartz, ceramic, ceramic-coated metals, A1, Ti, Pd or glass coated with SnO or Au. The preferred halides are CuCl, AgCl, CuBr, AgI and AgF. The introduction of Ag or Cu improves the ratio of light conductivity to dark conductivity (L/D) to give an optimum value. If this value is exceeded the doped layer may be exposed to Cd vapour to bring the layer back to the optimum L/D value.
