Abstract
1,193,820. Gas burners. I. HAWKES AND T. SWITHENBANK. 19 April, 1969, No. 20110/69. Heading F4T. In an atmospheric gas burner having a throated nozzle 6, an annular chamber 2 surrounding the nozzle near its inlet end 4, an annular orifice 3 extending between the chamber and the nozzle upstream of its throat, and a flame stabilizer 10 at one end of the nozzle, gas passes into the chamber 2 through inlet 1, emerges through orifice 3 and flows along the internal surface of the nozzle towards the throat, due to the boards effect, drawing in primary air through the inlet 4. The width of the orifice 3 may be adjusted manually, by fluid pressure from a control device, or by means of an annular flexible diaphragm moved by the gas pressure in chamber 2. The flame stabilizer may comprise a tube of larger diameter than the outlet end of the nozzle, adjacent that end, an array of angled blades at the nozzle outlet, or a number of non-radial air inlet slots forming a vortex chamber at the inlet 4.
