Abstract

1,193,699. Tunnel kilns. FETOK G.m.b.H. 29 Dec., 1967 [14 Jan., 1967; 24 April, 1967], No. 58981/67. Heading F4B. A method of firing ceramics in a tunnel kiln, which kiln has a pre-heating zone, firing zone and cooling zone, comprises passing the ceramic objects 13 through the kiln in a single layer on trolleys 11, the objects being heated up and fired exclusively by radiation. The trolleys pass through the kiln in steps corresponding to the length of a trolley or the length of an integral number of trolleys, transverse partitions (30, Fig. 2) dividing the kiln into corresponding sections, all the objects in each section thus reacting the same temperature. The roof 8 of the kiln contains adjustable openings 28 to draw off gases resulting from the decomposition of organic materials in the ceramic.
