Abstract
1,192,761. Lining bar for press filter. ROSE, DOWNS & THOMPSON Ltd. 11 March, 1968 [15 March, 1967], No. 12051/67. Heading B1D. Lining bars which form the filtering surface of a rotary screw extrusion press or ram press for vegetable matter each comprise an elongated metal body 19 with a wear-resistant facing 22, of glass or ceramic, adhered, keyed or screwed thereto. The facing may comprise axially abutting sections (Fig. 1, not shown) so that the bar can bend without fracturing the facing. The body has axially spaced, wedge-like extensions 21 which abut the adjacent bar, when the bars are arranged to form a press cage of cylindrical shape, supported by two-part external rings within a closed housing (Figs. 3, 4, not shown). Among suitable facing materials are a mixture of at least 85% alumina with a vitrified ceramic, a glass containing at least 70% silica, and a ceramic matrix with silicon carbide embedded therein. In an extrusion press, the screw rotates so as to press facing 22 leftwards in Fig. 2, so as not to stress the Araldite (T.M.) bonding the facing to the bar, the force being borne by shoulder 20. Instead of straight bars, a cylindrical cage may be built up of coaxial rings, of otherwise similar construction to the bar described. Facings may be reground when worn.
