Abstract
1,192,070. Two-part couplings. AMP Inc. 14 Oct., 1968 [17 Oct., 1967], No. 47148/67. Heading H2E. A high voltage connection to either the distributer cap or the high tension coil cap of an internal combustion engine is made inside a cylindrical insulating projection by a resilient socket terminal fitting over a metal stud therein, the stud terminating short of the opening of the projection. In the former case (Fig. 1) a distributer cap 1, of moulded insulating material, has four cylindrical projections 2 symmetrically distributed about a central cylindrical projection 3. Inside each projection is a metal stud 10, comprising a lower portion 14 extending downwardly within the cap 1 to make contact with the distributer rotor arm (not shown), a central portion 13 embedded in the cap 1, and an upper portion over which fits a resilient socket contact 4. The contact 4 is formed from sheet metal rolled into an open tube, and is crimped to a lead 5, the socket portion 7, includes a corrugation 8, which in use, fits over a head portion 16 of the stud 10. A pair of turned-in ears 9 prevents the lead 5 projecting into the socket portion. An identical contact may be attached to the other end of the lead for engagement with a complementary stud 11 on a spark plug 12. A high tension coil connection is also disclosed (Fig. 2, not shown) in which an insulating cap (21) is formed with a central cylindrical projection (22) having therein a stud (23), connection to which is made by a socket contact as previously described.
