Abstract

1,191,741. Reactive dyes. J. R. GEIGY A.G. 20 July, 1967 [21 July, 1966], No. 33434/67. Heading C4P. The invention comprises reactive, heavy metal-containing formazane dyestuffs of Formula I wherein A represents the radical of a diazo component which has a substituent X in the o-position to the azo bond; X represents a metal-binding substituent; R represents an optionally substituted aliphatic hydrocarbon radical, a cycloaliphatic radical or a carbocyclic-aromatic or heterocyclic-aromatic radical; R<SP>1</SP> represents hydrogen or a C 1-5 alkyl.group; Y represents an acyl radical which forms at least one covalent bond with the substrate under dyeing conditions; Z represents a salt-forming, water-solubilizing group which dissociates acid in neutral water. Me represents a heavy metal of the atomic numbers 24 to 30, and m represents a positive whole number of at most 7 by coupling the diazonium compound of an amine X<SP>1</SP>-A-NH 2 , wherein A has the meaning for Formula I, and X<SP>1</SP> represents a metallizable group or a substituent which can be converted thereto during metallization with a coupling component of Formula III wherein Y, R<SP>1</SP> and R have the meanings given for Formula I, and Q represents hydrogen or a substituent which can be replaced by azo coupling to form a formazane dyestuff of Formula IV wherein A, R, R<SP>1</SP>, Y, Z and m have the meanings given for Formula I, and X<SP>1</SP> has that given for Formula II, the components being so chosen that the formazane dyestuff of Formula IV contains at most six Z groups, and reacting the formazane dyestuff obtained of Formula IV simultaneously or subsequently with an agent introducing a heavy metal Me to form a formazane dyestuff of Formula I. The dyes may be used to colour wool, silk, synthetic polyamides and polyurethanes and, in particular, cellulose fibres in green and blue shades.
