Compote. fabrics.-A web of carded wool a and a warp of spun yarn or band of loosely woven fabric b are wound spirally around two rollers C, D so that each convolution overlaps the pureceding one. The materials are held in position by a size or adhesive applied as the layers are wound upon one another and a pressure roller F is mounted in loose bearings over the roller C to apply pressure to the band as it is formed. In order to obtain the spiral winding, the two bands a, b are slowly traversed across the roller C and an endless band may be stretched over the rollers C, D to support the fabric. The fabric formed will be an endless band having a section as shown diagrammatically in Fig. 3. The endless band of fabric may be cut transversely, and two or more pieces may be overlapped and cemented together to form a wick fabric, and the fabric may be milled or fulled to render the surface homogenous.
