Abstract

1,189,359. Collapsible doors and partitions. HOUGH MFG. CORP. 31 July, 1967 [10 Feb., 1967], No. 34989/67. Heading B1J. In a collapsible door or partition consisting of a zig-zag foldable panel structure carried by an overhead guide track each panel is hollow and formed by two horizontal spaced frame members 32, Fig. 11 e.g. of extruded aluminium and two vertical spaced members 36 which are butt jointed to the ends of the horizontal members 32 and retained together by means of angle-members 40 secured as by removable screws 46 to the inwardly facing sides 60, 100 of the U-section frame members, 32, 36 of the cross-section shown provided with flanges 66, 71 formed as recesses which provide a circum-ambient recess around the frame so that when one side member is removed by removing screws 46, in the folded condition of the structure, an existing cover sheet (e.g. of laminated layers indicated in Figs. 5-9 not shown of gypsum and hardwood, plywood, tackwood &c.,) may be slid out of the three remaining frame members and a new one slid in and the side frame member then restored and fixed to the horizontal members. Each upper frame member 32 is provided with a load-transmitting member 50 equal in length to half the width of the panel. Each panel of the structure is provided with retractable and extensible draught or sound excluders in the top and bottom frame members extensible between the horizontal extremes of the top and bottom frame member and the adjacent ceiling or floor surface, and take the form of U-section members 354 357 movable by vertically operable bars 370, 372, Fig. 4, in the webs 62 of the upper and lower frame members through a double end swing arm 120 operated by a horizontal rod 118 Fig. 2 in each panel all the rods of the panels being coupled in series by coupling means 136 when the structure is in extended condition, and rotated by mechanism 194 in a modified pass panel which is mounted on a modified vertical member, Fig. 3A on a wall 28. The space between the spacings of a panel may be stuffed with sound damping polyurethane foam.
