Abstract
1,188,573. Air-permeable coatings. CHEMISCHE WERKE HULS A.G. 25 July, 1967 [26 July, 1966], No. 34132/67. Heading B2E. [Also in Division B5] A process for the production of a practically waterproof, air-permeable artificial leather comprises applying a layer (a) of a polyvinyl chloride paste containing 0.2 to 1.0% by weight of an expanding agent which decomposes at below 150‹C., to a backing support which repels polyvinyl chloride, applying to the layer (a) a further layer (b) of a polyvinyl chloride paste containing 1 to 5% by weight of an expanding agent which decomposes at below 150‹C., and superimposing a layer of textile material which may be knitted, woven or non-woven on layer (b), heating the resultant assembly, gelling and expanding the polyvinyl chloride, cooling the assembly and stripping the layers as a unit from the backing support. The layer (a) is applied by a doctor knife or reverse-roller-coater and the layer (b) by doctor knife. The polyvinyl chloride pastes used to form layers (a) and (b) may contain plasticisers, fillers, dyes and stabilisers. The backing support may be made of paper, cloth or metal.
