Abstract
118,833. Schleifer, R. Sept. 1, 1917, [Convention date]. Combing-machines.-The lap 6 is fed forward by a feed-device 5 and passed between the open jaws 1, 2 of one of a series of nippers mounted on an intermittently rotating carrier 3. An oscillating blade 7 assists in placing the end of the lap between the jaws. The jaws grip the lap, combs 9 enter it to hold it, and the rotation of the carrier 3 tears off a tuft. The projecting end of the tuft is carried past two or more combing- drums 10, 11, which comb both sides of it. The tuft is transferred to another gripper 1<1>, 2<1>, forming one of a series mounted on another carrier 3<1> rotating synchronously with carrier 3. The uncombed end is then treated by combing-drums 10<1>, 11<1>, and finally the fully combed tuft is passed to a drawing-off device 15, the belt 14 of which rotates intermittently. A stroke 17 draws the tuft from the opened jaws on the nipper. The ends of the tuft may be treated by more than two combing-drums, and more than two series of nippers may be employed. The various operations may all be effected automatically or by hand.
