Abstract

1,188,176. Delivering wood chips. BELOIT CORP. 29 Nov., 1967 [15 Dec., 1966], No. 54369/67. Heading B8A. Wood chips are delivered horizontally through opening 12 by conveyer screw 11 and fall down passage 13 into a pressure cooker, the opening 12 being controlled by valve plate 19. Plate 19 is carried pivotally at 21 by rod 22 influenced by pressure cylinder 24 and its movement is guided between open and close positions bv wood chips are compressed to prevent escape of air from the pressure cooker. The compressed chips then force open the plate 19 against the pressure of air in chamber 24 whilst at the same time the chips are deflected downwards by the plate. If, however, the chips are less compressed, then plate 19 is urged leftwards by cylinder 24 to close the opening 12. In this way chips are permitted into cooker 30 whilst maintaining a seal to the opening 12
