Abstract

1,188,102. Angular bending. COMBUSTION ENG. Inc. 27 Nov., 1968 [4 Dec., 1967], No. 56334/68. Heading B3E. A portable tube bending apparatus 10 is mounted on a portable manipulator, and has a tube bending means with an angle indicating means and an actuating means with a control means whereby the tube may be bent to a desired angle. An overhead suspension boom 20 supported by an upright 22 carries the tube bending apparatus 10 on a cable 24 balanced by a counterweight 28 to enable it to be readily positioned by the operator. The whole apparatus is made portable by engaging a crane hook 12 with an eye 14 on the boom 20. The tube bending means comprises a yoke 34 and a quadrant die 71 mounted on a support 40 said die co-operating with a grooved bending roller 42 mounted on a spring-loaded pivoted assembly 44, the actuating means comprising an hydraulic cylinder 48 and a cable 60 attached at both ends to the cam 56 of the cylinder 48, the cable passing through sheaves 65 and around a lug 64 on the support 40. A pointer 68 on the assembly 44 co-operating with a scale 66 on the support 40 determines the angle of tube bend and thus is effected by control means 70 attached to an hydraulic pump 52 which actuates the hydraulic cylinder 48. The support 40 is adjustably positioned in a yoke 30 carried by the cable 24 by means of a clamping nut 13 and a swivel 92. An additional roller 94 may be provided to give a greater leverage for bending large, thick-walled tubes.
