Abstract

1,187,042. Valves. JACO ENG. DEVELOPMENTS CO. Ltd. 2 April, 1968 [20 April, 1967], No. 18156/67. Heading F2V. [Also in Division G3] A valve has an inlet 15 and outlet 14 selectively connected by passages 17, 19, 21, 23, 25 and 27 of reduced cross-sectional areas so as to vary the flow rate through the valve. The valve housing 10 has a bore in which a spool 11 can be slidably adjusted and located by a cam or detent. The spool has an annular groove 12, sealed by 0-rings, not shown, and a radial passage 13 connecting with the outlet 14, which can be aligned with passages 30 in the housing so that the flow passes through the required length of reduced passage, the passages 17, 19, 21, 23, 25 and 27 being connected by passages 18, 20, 22, 24 and 26, respectively in the housing. In further embodiments the flow rate is varied by selecting a portion of a single passage or one of a series of parallel passages of differing lengths. The reduced passage may be in the form of a scroll or spiral, with individual valves operated by a displaceable member along the length of the passage, or the clearance between male and female screwthreaded members, one of the members having ports masked by a sleeve.
