Massage and vibratory treatment. -In apparatus in which movement of the applicators is produced by eccentrics, eccentrically - mounted weights, &c., means are provided whereby the throw of the eccentrics may be adjusted during operation, by an axial movement of a part of the mechanism. In the device shown in Fig. 1, the power-driven shaft 1 has mounted thereon two eccentrics 2, 3<a>, the inner one being secured to the shaft 1, and the outer serving to reciprocate the applicator head 4. The relative positions of the eccentrics are adjusted by the longitudinal movement of a screw 7 which passes through a slot 8<a> in the casing and moves a sleeve 5 along the shaft 1, a helical groove 5<a> engaging a pin 1<a >on the shaft 1 and serving to rotate the eccentric 2, thereby altering the effective throw of the combined eccentrics. Rotation of the eccentric 3<a> relative to the sleeve 5 is prevented by a slotted tube 3 secured thereto, which engages a pin 5<b> on the sleeve. A clamping-nut 7<a> serves to retain the device in the adjusted position. In a modification, Fig. 3, adapted to a rocking motion of the applicator, the holder 18 is pivoted at 19 to the front plate 14<a> of the casing 14, movement of an inner sleeve 11 effecting adjustment of the outer eccentric 17 through a sleeve 12 secured to the driven shaft 10. A helical groove 12<b> in the sleeve 12 causes the rotation through a pin 15a of a sleeve 15 mounted on a shaft 13 and connected by a slotted head 15<b> to a pin 17<a> on the eccentric 17, connexion between the parts 12, 13 being effected by a pin 13<b> and a slot 12<a>. Eccentrically-mounted weights may replace the eccentrics in these forms of apparatus. When a circular motion, in addition to the oscillating motion, is required, the inner eccentric rotates within a slot carried by an eccentricallypivoted disk secured to a sleeve, adjustment of which is effected in the manner shown in Fig. 3. An alternative means for producing the axial displacement comprises an external sleeve screwed on the interior to engage threads on a projecting part of a sleeve connected to the part to be adjusted. This device is described as applied to means for giving a circular conical motion to the application.
