Abstract

1,186,954. Endless conveyers. G. ZEGNA, and G. ZEGNA. 12 Sept., 1968 [27 Sept., 1967], No. 43429/68. Heading B8A. Elongated articles, such as bobbins, have a pair of spaced bands 2, 3, the spacing corresponding to a predetermined code for a characteristic of the article, e.g. colour, and which is detected at one of a series of sorting stations arranged along an endless conveyer belt on which the bobbins are conveyed. The bands 2, 3 are formed of an electrically conductive material and each sorting station comprises two pairs of contacts 9, 91, 10, 10<SP>1</SP> arranged on opposite sides of the belt 5 and longitudinally spaced according to the predetermined code. In operation the articles pass through the sorting stations until the spacing of the bands 2, 3 on the article corresponds to the spacing of the contacts 9, 9<SP>1</SP> and 10, 101, whereupon a series electrical circuit is made through the bands to actuate a relay and time delay 15. The relay 15 in turn energizes a solenoid 17 to move an arm 20 from an inoperative position at the side of the conveyer to a position extending across the conveyer to deflect the article into an awaiting container.
