Abstract

1,186,576. Delivering sheets. WINDMÍLLER & HÍLSCHER. 23 May, 1967 [2 June, 1966], No. 23845/67. Heading B8R. Sheets 42 such as flattened bags are carried by their leading edges through a stacking area by a plurality of grippers 40, 40<SP>1</SP> on endless chains 39, 39<SP>1</SP>, and in the condition of Fig. 2, a stacking belt 54 being stationary, a movable gripper-opening device 1 being inoperative and sheet stop members 18, 18<SP>1</SP> being retracted, each set of grippers in turn is opened by stationary cams 27, 27<SP>1</SP> of a stationary gripperopening device 28 to drop the sheets on to a stack 42a and against front stops 30. When the required number of sheets has been stacked, a counter actuates a motor to drive control chains 57, 57<SP>1</SP> at a slower speed than the chains 39, 39<SP>1</SP>, and actuates a pneumatic cylinder 36 to retract the stops 30, so that the stack 42a is carried out of the stacking area. The counter also actuates a pneumatic cylinder 9 to move a piston 8 to the left, a cam 24 on the piston causing the stops 18, 18<SP>1</SP> to be lowered and noses 55, 55<SP>1</SP> of cams 13, 131 also to be lowered, whereupon the opening device 1 is moved to the left by the chains 57, 57<SP>1</SP> at the same speed as the belt 54, each set of grippers being opened as it passes the cams 13, 13<SP>1</SP> so as to drop the sheets on to a new stack on the belt 54 spaced behind the stack 42a and adjacent the front stops 18, 18<SP>1</SP>. When the new stack reaches the position of the stack 42a in Fig. 2, a limit switch is actuated to reverse the chains 57, 57<SP>1</SP> , move the cams 13, 13<SP>1</SP> and the stops 18, 18<SP>1</SP> to inoperative position, return the opening device 1 from the position of Fig. 4 to that of Fig. 2, thereafter stopping the chains 57, 57<SP>1</SP>, and lower the stops 30, whereupon the new stack builds up until the counter operates again.
