Abstract

1,186,072. Steelmaking plant. DEMAG A. G. Feb.28, 1967 [March 2, 1966], No. 9519/67. Heading C7D. [Also in Division F4] A converter steel-making plant comprises one or more transportable converter bodies, each being provided with suspension members on its bearing trunnions, and which circulate between a series of stations such as charging, blowing, slagging, tapping, and re-lining stations, movement of the bodies preferably being effected by crane. As shown in Fig. 4, a converter body suspended from crane 6 is charged with scrap from box 7, and then with liquid iron from a mixer 9; the converter is then deposited on a truck 11 which moves it into position below a blowing stand 10. When refining is complete the converter is returned to crane 6, which transports it to tapping stand 15 where the steel is tapped into a pouring ladle standing on truck 19, after which the converter is returned to the scrapcharging position.
