Abstract
1,184,972. Centrifugal pumps. SAMUEL PEGG & SON Ltd. Jan.1, 1969[Jan.2, 1968], No.211/68. Heading F1C. In a centrifugal pump, e.g. for pumping dye liquor in a closed circuit, comprising an impeller 3 arranged within a casing having its inlet and outlet formed by two circumferentially-spaced ports 9 each communicating with a respective duct 10, a conduit 8 in the form of an elbow is arranged with one end in permanent communication with the impeller eye E. Moreover, the conduit 8 is angularly adjustable by rotating a spindle 11 by a handle 13 or small motor, to cause its other end to communicate with either of the two ports 9 to reverse the direction of flow therethrough. The conduit may be adjusted to the central position between the ports 9 to communicate equally with both ports and thereby cause the liquid to merely recirculate within the pump casing, or to any other position between the ports to regulate the quantity of liquid delivered as well as the direction of liquid flow. Large quantities of liquid may be introduced into the pumped liquid through passage 19 and annular channel 18. Moreover, small quantities of liquid, e. g. low temperature dye liquor, may be introduced through a conduit 20 in the vicinity of a rotational seal 7 to protect the latter from hot pumped liquor and to make up any liquid deficiency in the pumped circuit.
