Abstract
1,183,740. Angular bending. HILGER MASCHINEN-UND APPARATE-BAUANSTALT m.b.H. 15 Dec., 1967 [30 Dec., 1966], No. 57116/67. Heading B3E. A method of bending an elongated workpiece in a machine having a rotatable bending template, comprises arranging the workpiece tangentially of the template and in contact with a slidable guide carried on the periphery of the template, clamping the workpiece to the machine frame at the side of the guide remote from the intended bend and pivoting the template to deform the workpiece into a uniform arcuate path described by the guide element. An apparatus for carrying out the method comprises a body 10 on which the template 13 is mounted for rotation about a vertical pivot pin. The template comprises two parallel plates 14 and 15 between which are a number of rollers 18, each roller being rotatable about its own axis and its distance from the pivot pin being continuously adjustable. The part of the template adjacent the first roller 16 is extended radially outwards to form a mounting for a roller 17. The rollers 16, 17 and 18 all have an arcuate or V-shaped peripheral groove to suit the workpiece being bent. The end of the workpiece is held between hydraulicallyoperated clamping jaws 19 and 20, which are rotatable about an axis parallel to the pivot pin and the part projecting through the bending rollers 16 and 17 is curved to the radius of the template when the template is rotated by an hydraulic drive unit in the body 10. The rollers may be replaced by sliding shoes. For bending tapered tubes, the thicker end of the tube is held in the clamping jaws and the bending rollers 16 and 17 are spring-loaded together, to remain in contact with the tube as they move along it. If the bend to be produced is not exactly circular, the positions of the rollers 18 can be adjusted accordingly.
