Abstract
1,183,178. Feeding and copying record tapes. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP. 6 Jan., 1969 [15 Jan., 19681, No. 755/69. Heading G5R. In passing a magnetic head 47, a tape is fed through a passage in which air pressure is applied to both faces of the tape, e.g. by means of apertures 45a, 46a, 66, the passage having a valve which allows the passage of the tape but opposes the release of air from the passage. As shown, there are two valves 50, 70 at the entrance and exit respectively of the passage, comprising pairs of flexible membranes 52a, 56a and 73a, 76a which press against the tape. The head 47 provides a transfer field for copying from a master tape T1 to a copy tape T2, the two tapes being held together by the air pressure in the passage. The tape transport and copying arrangement is generally of the type described in Specification 1,166,804.
