1,183,116. Ratchet gearing; vehicle handbrake devices. MULTI-STROKE HANDBRAKE CONTROLS Ltd. 18 Sept., 1968 [19 Sept., 1967], No. 42564/67. Headings F2E and F2Q. In a lever-operated ratchet device, such as a multi-stroke handbrake control, a cable drum is formed with a ratchet wheel 7 on one side and a dished disc 8 on the other, the inner peripheral portion of the wheel 7 being machined to form a shoulder 23 preventing snagging of the teeth by the cable. Escape of the cable from the drum is prevented by a bolt 15 mounted between side plates 3, 4 and lying closely adjacent the edge of disc 8. The operating hand lever 18 carries a driving pawl 19, and a holding pawl 12 is pivoted on bolt 15, the pawls being withdrawn from the wheel 7 to free the cable 13 by depressing a release button 22 to move a member 20 clear of a stop pin 21 and then rotating lever 18 clockwise to bring the pawls into contact and thus cause them to rotate clear of the wheel 7. The outer disc 8 forms the subject of Specification 1,183,117.
