Abstract
1,182,945. Straightening. LEAR SIEGLER Inc. 23 March, 1967 [25 May, 1966], No. 13681/67. Heading B3E. [Also in Division C7] Apparatus for straightening bars of throughhardening steel during air-cooling from an intermediate temperature, e.g. 225-125‹ F. to which they have been initially cooled from the hardening temperature consists of a lathe 10 in which the bar M is rotated, and a number of steady rests 20 which maintain axially spaced zones of the bar in alignment and which are slidable along the lathe bed so that they may be located at those regions of the bar which initially show maximum distortion. The steady rests consist of columns 40 mounted on slides 28, 30, the positions of the columns relative to each other being adjustable by screw 32. Each column carries rolls 44, 46, while where necessary additional support may be provided by tie-bar 52.
