Abstract

1,182,936. Transfers. ARTYPE Inc. 19 May, 1967 [20 May, 1966], No. 23330/67. Heading B6C. A dry transfer of the type in which an indicia beneath a light transmissive carrier is rubbed on to a receiving surface is characterized in that the solvent of the pressure-sensitive adhesive by which the indicia is adhered to the receiving surface chemically interacts with the carrier to produce a matt finish on the upper or outer surface of the transferred indicia. The transfer of Figures 1 and 2 consists of a polystyrene sheet carrier 10 and indicia 12, each comprising a portion of a release agent 14 covered by pressure-sensitive adhesive 16. The release agent 14 may comprise a nitro-cellulose ink in a butyl-cellosolve solvent, with ethylcellulose added to impart the desired viscosity to the material. A preferred pigment is an alkyd dispersion. Mica may also be incorporated in the agent 14 along with a plasticizer in the form of polymerized castor oil. The pressuresensitive adhesive may contain, as its solvent, aromatic hydrocarbon solvents having a Kauri- Butanol value in the range 80-90. In a second embodiment, the pressure-sensitive adhesive 16 is uniformly spread over the whole of the carrier sheet 10.
