Abstract

1,182,244. Sealing strips. DRAFTEX Ltd. 10 April, 1967 [20 April, 1966], No. 17343/66. Heading B5K. [Also in Divisions El and E2] A sealing strip for mounting on a supporting flange comprises a clip and a covering therefor, the clip being constructed from a blank of suitable sheet or strip material, for example, mild steel or aluminium, the blank being slotted or slit and stretched so that the clip has two series of longitudinally spaced limbs, the clip being of substantially keyhole cross-sectional form, the limbs being cranked intermediate their depth to provide oppositely positioned inwardly directed gripping portions for directly or indirectly gripping the flange. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the gripping portions press limbs 7 of a covering into contact with the flange 4, but in a modification, the limbs 7 of the covering do not extend so far into the interior of the clip so that the clip grips the flange directly. The lower parts 5 of the limbs of the clip below the cranked portions diverge to provide a lead-in to facilitate pressing the clip and its covering on to the flange. In one construction, the limbs are formed by slotting the blank alternately from opposite edges, in another form the blank is slit alternately from opposite edges and is then stretched lengthwise so that the slits become V-shaped slots. In a third form the blank is formed with slits which project inwardly from opposite edges of the blank and with slits intermediate the firstmentioned slits and having a length less than the width of the blank; the blank is then stretched lengthwise to cause the slits to open out respectively into V-shaped slots and diamond-shaped slots. The clip can be wholly enclosed in a strip of rubber or plastics material by extruding the strip over the clip.
