Abstract
1,181,218. Substituted aminimides. ASHLAND OIL & REFINING CO. 16 Dec., 1966 [17 Dec., 1965], No. 56419/66. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C3R] Aminimides of formula in which R(H) n represents an organic acid non-reacting residue, R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP>, which may be the same or different, represent aliphatic (except alkylic), aryl (except benzylic), hydrocarbon groups or R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP>, together with the adjacent nitrogen atom form a heterocyclic ring while R<SP>3</SP> represents an aliphatic or aryl hydrocarbon group and n is 0 or 1, are prepared by reacting an organic ester in which R<SP>4</SP> represents an alkyl group containing 1 to 20 carbon atoms with a hydrazinium salt of formula in which R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> are as defined above and X represents a group capable of forming an anion, in the presence of a base and an aprotic solvent. Examples describe the preparation of trimethylamine caprylimide, trimethylamine pyristimide, bis - trimethylamine sebacimide, hexanoic aminimide and trimethylamine stearimide. The compounds may be used to prepare isocyanates by pyrolysis at temperatures above 150‹ C. or by photolysis. This reaction in the presence of polyhydroxy compounds gives rise to polymethane, the tertiary amine formed acting as a polymerization catalyst.
