Abstract

1,180,896. Vehicle fuel tanks. J. PUIG. 11 July, 1968, No. 33079/68. Heading B7H. A vapour-tight fuel tank for a self-propelled vehicle comprises a pliable liquid and vapourtight bag 5 housed in a rigid container 1, the bag 5 having filler and outlet orifices sealingly connected to corresponding orifices in the container 1, and the container 1 having a vent hole 4 for admitting air to the container to allow the volume of the bag to decrease as the fuel therein is used. A filler extension 5a of the bag 5 has a flange gripped between a reinforcing element lc on a corresponding container extension 1a and a nut 7 formed with projections 7a for securing a sealed filler cap 8. The outlet orifice of the bag 5 either has a flanged extension 5b gripped between a nut 6 and a reinforcing member Ib on the container or, in Fig. 2 (not shown), the outlet orifice is a plain aperture the periphery of which is gripped between a nut (11) and a flange (10a) on an outlet tube (10) secured to the container by a nut (12). The bag 5 is formed from a synthetic elastomer and is so shaped that it collapses in concertina fashion as the fuel is used. The container 1 is made of sheet metal or laminated plastics material and includes a cover 2 secured by a crimped U-shaped element 3.
