Abstract
1,180,888. Filter. D. A. G. MARSHALL. 25 April, 1967 [25 Jan., 1966], No. 3375/66. Headings B1D and B1T. A filter for gas and/or liquids comprises a honeycombe of cells 12 containing activated carbon particles in which the open ends of the cells are closed by screens 14, 16 bonded to the cells by open-work metal grills 18, 20 having a coating of polyethylene which provides the desired bonds. The cells may be only partially filled with activated carbon to form a bypass filter. The honeycombe of cells 12 may be made of strips of metal, card or synthetic plastic which have been joined together at spaced apart areas and expanded, screens 14, 16 may be synthetic plastic or metal, and grilles 18 and 20 may be weld mesh or expanded metal. To make the filter, the grilles are coated with the polyethylene by being heated and dipped in or sprayed with powdered polyethylene which brings the polyethylene to the molten plate, whereupon screens 14 and 16, grilles 18 and 20 and honeycombe 12 are pressed together. The filters may be arranged in casing 20 in V- formation in open work trays preceeded by a grille 22 and pleated filter (24) surrounded a metal frame 26.
