Abstract
1,180,872. Selective printing. WALTHERBUROMASCHINEN G.m.b.H. 30 May, 1968 [1 June, 1967], No. 26041/68. Heading B6F. A selective printer comprises a continuously rotating type drum 1 supporting a plurality of type members 2 slidable axially of the drum 1, impression being effected by a rotating toothed wheel 14 having resilient teeth 16 which can selectively engage a hammer 8 corresponding to the character to be typed when the hammer is moved from an inoperative position as shown to an operative position radially inwardly thereof. The hammers 8 are movable into the operative position by timed actuation of an electromagnet 18 the armature 23 of which engages a projection 17 of the hammer 8. A plurality of electromagnets may be provided, each armature thereof engaging differently located projections such as 17, 17<SP>11</SP> to prevent an electromagnet from engaging two successive hammers. The hammers are returned to the inoperative position by an inclined member 27 aided by centrifugal force and leaf springs 5 return the type members 2, the hammers thereby being pushed against a stop ring. The type drum 1 forms part of a type carriage movable in the letter-space direction. The drum shaft 3 and toothed wheel shaft 15 are connected together for synchronous rotation by a gear-wheel drive arrangement (Figs. 5, 6, not shown).
