Abstract

1,180,311. Convertible aircraft. VEREINIGTE FLUGTECHNISCHE WERKE G.m.b.H. FRœHER "WESER" FLUGZEUGBAU/FOCKE - WULF/HEINKEL - FLUGZEUBAU. 5 April, 1968, No. 16610/68. Headings B7G and B7W. [Also in Division F2l A variable lever mechanism for effecting output movements of rods 10, 11 in opposite senses in adjustable proportion to one another in response to movements of an input rod 7 comprises a lever 8, to the ends of which the rods 10, 11 are connected, and a guide 5 in which the lever 8 is displaceably mounted, the guide 5 being pivotally mounted on a fixed girder 1 and having an integral arm 6 to which the rod 7 is attached. The guide 5 is pivotally mounted on a shaft 2 which carries a pinion 4 meshing a toothed rack 9 formed on the lever 8. The shaft 2 carries a sprocket 3, which, in the application of the mechanism to tilting- wing aircraft control is connected by a chain to a servomotor producing tilting of the wings whereby the displacement of the lever 8 in the guide 5 is effected in dependence upon the position of the lifting surfaces, the control rod 7 being connected to the rudder pedals, and rods 10, 11 acting on the ailerons and rudder respectively. Each output connection may be brought into coincidence with the axis of shaft 2. In a modification, the rail 5 is driven by a pinion 12, Fig. 5, through a shaft 13 having two universal joints. In another modification, a curved lever 14, Fig. 6, is provided and the ends of rods 10, 11 slide in a guide 15. In a further modification, rods 16, Fig. 8, issuing from a lever slide in the hollow arms of rockers 17. Two such mechanisms 18, 19 in combination with a mixing lever 20 are shown in Fig. 9, the positions corresponding to hovering flight. Movement of rudder pedals 21 is transmitted through lever mechanism 18 and mixing lever 20 to a rod 22 acting on the ailerons. A lateral deflection of a control column 23 is transmitted via bell-crank 24 and lever mechanism 19 to a rod 25 acting on the propeller adjustment. For cruising flight, the two lever mechanisms 18, 19 are shifted to their other extreme positions.
