Abstract

1,180,214. Valves. JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd. 18 May, 1967 [29 March, 1966], No. 13810/66. Heading F2V. A relief valve is provided with concentric closure members 12, 15 arranged so that under low pressure conditions fluid is free to flow from inlet A to outlet B via flutes 13a and annular passage 14 until the pressure is sufficient to compress spring 16 to cause closure member 12 to engage seat 11. Thereafter flow is cut off until the pressure increases sufficiently to unseat ball 15. In various modifications (not shown) spring 16 is assisted by a second compression spring, or is replaced by a tension spring, and ball 15 is replaced by poppet valves of various shapes.
