Abstract
1,179,576. Trioxan copolymers with bifunctional compounds. FARBWERKE HOECHST A.G. 17 Aug., 1967 [17 Aug., 1966], No. 37978/67. Heading C3P. Copolymers of 70 to 99À9% of trioxan, 0 to 10% of a cyclic ether or formal, and 0À01 to 20% of a bifunctional compound of the formula where R 1 is a 2,3-epoxypropyloxy or 1,3-dioxanyl-4-methoxy radical, R 2 is an aromatic hydrocarbon radical of 6 or 10 carbon atoms, which may be substituted by up to 4 alkyl or alkoxy groups, and R 3 is an alkyl group of 1 to 6 carbon atoms, are obtained by polymerizing the monomers in the presence of a cationic catalyst at - 50‹ to +110‹C. Conventional polymerization conditions are employed. In the examples, BF 3 - dibutyl etherate is used as catalyst in a bulk terpolymerization of trioxan with ethylene oxide and p- or o-glycideoxybenzoic acid methyl ester, 3 - methoxy - 4 - glycideoxy - benzoic acid methyl ester, 3-methyl-6-glycideoxy benzoic acid methyl ester, and 2-glycideoxy-naphthalene-3-carboxylic acid ethyl ester.
