Abstract
1,179,360. Valves. L. ADAMS Ltd. 26 Sept., 1968, No. 45707/68. Addition to 1,136,542. Heading F2V. In a pressure relief valve 1, the closure member 5 is formed with an annular groove 7 the top side of which is covered by an annular diaphragm 3, the diaphragm being secured to the member along the outer periphery of the latter by means of a clamp ring 3. In operation, and in the absence of pressure at the inlet 2, a spring 9 causes the diaphragm to engage a tapered portion of the inlet 2 and so to be flexed inwardly into the groove 7. Upon a rise in pressure occurring at the inlet, such pressure acts through the groove 7 on the underside of the diaphragm and thus maintains the diaphragm in contact with the tapered portion until the cracking pressure is reached, at which stage the valve member moves in a direction away from the inlet 2.
