Abstract

1,179,218. Bearings; cam followers. McGILL MFG. CO. Inc. 19 Sept., 1968 [16 Oct., 1967], No. 44533/68. Headings F2A and F2K. A cam follower bearing assembly comprises an outer race 26 having at one end a counterbore 30 and an inner race 10 having at one end a flange portion 14 which abuts the surface of the counterbore to restrict relative axial motion of the races, an annular washer 51b of synthetic (e.g. nylon) material being provided between the surfaces of the flange portion and the counterbore to reduce sliding friction, and a plurality of rolling elements 67 being disposed between the races. An annular plate 22 may be mounted on the inner race and abut the surface of a counterbore 32 formed at the other end of the outer race so as to restrict axial motion in a direction opposite to that in which motion is restricted by the flange portion of the inner race. A nylon washer 51b may also be disposed between the thrust surfaces. Lubricant may be supplied to the bearings via the axial duct 36 and the radial passages 38. The nylon washers help prevent leakage and contamination of the lubricant, and further seals 7A may be employed. The Specification describes the use of roller bearings which may be guided by a cage 70. A threaded portion 12 is provided at one end of the stud 10 by which the cam follower may be secured to an arm for transmitting motion.
