Abstract

1,179,123. Amino organosilicon compounds. MIDLAND SILICONES Ltd. 16 May, 1967 [23 May, 1966], No. 22931/66. Heading C3S. [Also in Division C5] Amino organosilicon compounds of the general formula RaSi[ZNX 2 ] 4-a , wherein each R is a monovalent hydrocarbon radical, a monovalent hydrocarbonoxy radical or a monovalent halohydrocarbon radical, a is 1, 2 or 3, Z is a divalent saturated aliphatic or cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon radical and X is an aryl, alkyl or H radical, are prepared by reacting (1) RaSi[ZY] 4-a , wherein R 1 , a and Z have the above significance and Y is halogen, with (2) X 2 XQ, where X has the above significance and Q is an alkali metal atom. The compounds wherein each X is aryl and Z is C 1-3 alkylene are novel. Reactants of the type (1) include chloromethyl trimethyl silane, di(bromoethyl)-dibutyl silane, γ-chloropropylmethyl dioctyl silane and 8-chlorobutyl triethyl silane. The reaction is carried out, preferably in a solvent, at between 30‹ C. and the reflux temperature of the reaction mixture. The products can be used as water-repellent coatings on fibrous materials, as sizes for fibrous glass or as thermal and oxidative stabilizers for organic materials.
