Abstract

1,178,994. Valves. VAUXHALL MOTORS Ltd. 2 May, 1968 [11 May, 1967], No. 21959/67. Heading F2V. [Also in Division B7] A valve, which is adapted to be secured to the floor panel 1 of a car body and which is designed to relieve the pressure within the body when this exceeds atmospheric pressure, comprises a metallic housing 3 which is secured to the underside of, and arranged about an aperture 2 in the panel and includes a main aperture 5 and a plurality of apertures 7, and an unrestrained stiff disc closure member 4 which is made for example, from polystyrene and is movable between the position shown and that in which it closes the aperture 2, movement to the latter position occurring upon the pressure within the body falling below atmospheric pressure. A skirt 8, forming part of the housing 3, serves to protect the valve from mud or water splash. In the event of the body becoming partly immersed in water, the disc is capable of floating to its uppermost position to thereby seal the body from ingress of water.
