Abstract
1,178,802. Shearing. P. COLLY. 6 Feb., 1968 [30 March, 1967], No. 5810/68. Addition to 1,110,674. Heading B3W. A guillotine shear comprises a frame having a pair of laterally spaced uprights, a fixed shear blade and a movable shear blade, each extending between the uprights, the fixed blade being secured to the frame, and the movable blade being secured to a movable carrier which is slidably engaged with guide means pivotally connected between the uprights, self holding means for pivotally adjusting the guide means to obtain a predetermined clearance between the blades and further comprising additional means for pivotally adjusting the guide means to obtain a predetermined clearance between the blades. The movable blade 3 is secured to a carrier 2 which is held against two slideways 4a by spring jacks 25, pivotally mounted at 26 on the shear frame. The slideways 4a are each supported on an eccentric 27, the eccentrics being mounted on a common shaft 28 which is rotatable by a lever 29. At the lower rear face of each slideway is an inclined face 31 which engages a shoe 32. Each shoe is mounted on an eccentric 33, the eccentrics being rotated by hand wheel operated screws 37 extending through levers 39 secured to the shafts 35. Rotation of the shaft 28 causes a basically vertical movement of slideways 4a and because of the inclined face 31, this results in a horizontal movement of the cutter 3, this method of adjustment being used to vary the clearance between the blades according to the thickness of the work. Rotation of the eccentrics 33 causes a horizontal movement of the cutter 3 directly, this adjustment beings used to compensate for increase of the clearance between the blades due to sharpening.
