Abstract
1,178,760. Locks. C. E. MARSHALL (WOLVERHAMPTON) Ltd. 24 Sept., 1968 [19 Oct., 1967], No. 47623167. Heading E2A. In a revolving barrel lock having radially moving plate-like tumblers having a central key-way aperture, inaccuracies of manufacture are accommodated by making the tumblers of resilient material with a gap 31 between the key-way arid the edge of the tumbler. This provides a resilient arm 29 on one side of the tumbler, this arm carrying a shoulder 34 which limits radial movement of the tumbler and which, being biassed towards surface 19 cannot jam under surface 14 due to being undersized. The tumbler is pressed into its slot, cam surface 35 serving to depress the spring- arm 29, until it passes over shoulder 18, where it is retained by spring 37. The key blade may be symmetrical as shown in Fig. 4, but preferably the lock includes oppositely-acting sets of tumblers so that the key blade is not identical on either edge. In this case a serration 45 may be used on the handle 44 to indicate the correct key position. The lock parts may be coated with P.T.F.E. or Nylon for lubrication.
