1,178,226. Temperature control for chromatography columns. CESKOSLOVENSKA AKADEMIE VED. 2 Aug., 1968, No. 37009/68. Headings B1L and B1X. [Also in Divisions Gl and G3] Temperature control means for electrically conducting chromatography column 1 comprises a pair of current clamps 2, 6 and a pair of voltage clamps 7, 8. The column resistance, connected through the voltage clamps together with resistors 4, 5, 9, 10, 11 and 12, forms a double bridge so that, when the column temperature changes, causing a change in column resistance, power amplifier 16 amplifies the a.c. which appears across junctions 14, 15. This current is rectified and transmitted through transductor 18 thereby controlling the primary voltage of transformer 3, and hence the heating current, passed by current clamps 2, 6 to column 1. If desired, the output of amplifier 16 may also be made to control other regulating elements, e.g. thyristors or thyratrons, as well as transductor 18, and the resistors in the double bridge may be replaced by impedances.
