Abstract

1,178,183. Preparing plastics surfaces for printing. H. JAENICHE. 7 July, 1967 [8 Aug., 1966], No. 31321/67. Heading B6C. [Also in Division B2] Plastics articles are prepared for printing by the application of a coat of varnish of such a composition that the surface of the plastics is not dissolved, the varnish adhering to the plastics and providing an absorbent surface for the printing inks which are subsequently applied. A further coat of varnish is applied over the printed surface, the first coat being dried in a furnace immediately after application. Examples of suitable first and second varnishes are: 30% phthalate resin and 70% solvent mixture, comprising 30% ethyl glucol, 20% butyl glycol, 50% isopropyl alcohol, and 25% acrylate polymer and 75% solvent mixture, comprising 10% butanol, 30% lactic acid ester, 10% butyl acetate, 30% ethyl glycol, 20% diacetone alcohol.
