Dosage units of medicines in solid form are made by mixing an active medical ingredient with a carrier which is solid at room temperature but liquid at higher temperatures and feeding the molten mixture 1 into the nip 4<SP>1</SP> of a pair of cooled rotating rollers 2 and 3, the rollers having corresponding cavities 4 of the correct size between which the dosage units are formed. The units may be subjected to a finishing treatment such as coating after leaving the cavity. The medicinal ingredient may be potassium chloride. The carrier preferably has a melting point above 37‹ C. and may be a fat, wax or a thermoplastics material. The medicinal ingredient is preferably incorporated into the carrier as a fine powder and may comprise up to 80% by weight of the units although 0À5-2% by wt. is preferred.
