1,177,680. Purification of malic acid. BP CHEMICALS (U.K.) Ltd. 12 June, 1968 [5 July, 1967], No. 30863/67. Heading C2C. dl-Malic acid contaminated with maleic and fumaric acids is purified by recrystallizing dlmalic acid from a solvent, which is an ester or ketone wholly or partially immiscible with water. The solvent is subsequently washed with water to remove fumaric and maleic acids before recrystallizing more dl-malic acid, contaminated with maleic and fumaric acids, therefrom.
