Abstract
1,177,125. Proline; pentachlorophenol adduct. AJINOMOTO CO. Inc. 27 Jan., 1967 [1 Feb., 1966], No. 4135/67. Heading C2C. Proline is purified by contacting proline and at least an equimolar amount of pentachlorophenol (or an alkali metal salt thereof) in an aqueous medium at a pH of from 3 to 8, isolating the novel proline-pentachlorophenol adduct, and recovering proline by decomposition of the adduct. Decomposition of the adduct may be effected by treating it with aqueous mineral acid, by treatment with a strongly cationic ion-exchange resin, or by suspending the adduct in water and, preferably, heating. The process may be applied to optically active proline or racemic proline or to mixtures thereof, e.g. as fermentation broth or an acidic or enzymatic hydrolysate of proteins.
