Abstract

1,176,451. Heat exchange tubes; boilers; liquid heaters. ESSO RESEARCH & ENG. CO. 10 June, 1968 [30 June, 1967], No. 27510/68. Headings F4A and F4S. A steam generator or like furnace 10, Fig. 1, comprises heat exchanger tubes 18 mounted in the combustion or economizer section 14 which extends transversely of the flow of heating gases from burners 24 passing to a flue 26, each tube having metallic studs 20, Fig. 2, welded thereto and positioned in staggered rows about approximately 190 degrees of the tube periphery, leaving the remainder of the periphery free of studs. The tubes are mounted with the studs orientated towards the gas flow and in staggered rows wherein the tips of the studs of one tube lie in the stud-free zone of the adjacent tube in the adjacent layer.
