Abstract
1,176,184. Spacecraft. BOLKOW G.m.b.H. 22 May, 1967 [26 May, 1966], No. 23726/67. Heading B7W. [Also in Division H4] A spacecraft (e.g. a satellite 1) includes an outrigger assembly 2 comprising at least two flexible tube-like supporting members 3 (e.g. of rubberized or plasticized fabric) each attached at one end (e.g. by joints 5, a pipe 6 and a swivellable coupling 7) to the spacecraft from which gas may be passed into the members (e.g. from a container 8 via flexible tubes 9 to the outer ends 10) to inflate and extend same from a stored position in which the members are wound up (e.g. round the satellite body) the members carrying means to accommodate solar cells, aerials or the like. Between the members 3 may extend spacers 4 which are either rigid or inflatable. The members 3 may incorporate weights (13), Figs. 5a and 5b (not shown) and flat springs (12) to re-wind the members when deflated or an internal coating which foams and solidifies in response to a catalytic gas.
