Abstract

1,174,820. Pipe joints. O. JOHNSTAD. 24 Feb., 1967, No. 8826/67. Heading F2G. A coupling for joining pipe sections 31 and 41 of plastics material comprises a sleeve formed by two half cylindrical parts 25, 35, each part being provided with longitudinal edge flanges 27, 28 and 29, 30 respectively, and with an endless gasket, 26 and 36 respectively, extending along the longitudinal edges and the half circular end edges, and two conical ferrules 32 and 42, which are pressed into the ends of the pipe sections to flare the latter prior to bolting the half cylindrical parts together. The two part sleeve tapers from its central portion towards each of its ends. The longitudinal portions of each gasket seat in longitudinal grooves 34 in the associated half cylindrical part and sealingly abut the corresponding portions of the other gasket whilst the semicircular end-portions of the gaskets sealingly engage the surfaces of the pipe sections. The gaskets are preferably provided with longitudinal grooves to enhance sealing.
