In a pusher conveyer for inserting articles, e.g. loaves 32 into the uppermost bag of a stack 92 and delivering said bag to a discharge station 96, the pushes 83 are guided at said discharge station to effect a 180-degree reverse turn to withdraw the same from the bag and position them in their normal attitude for the return run. The pushers 83 are each mounted on one end of a rod 76 carried by a pair of spaced endless chains 70, 72 which rod at its other end mounts, at its fulcrum, a bell crank 88 with rollers 108, 110 at the extremities of its arms 104, 106. The rollers 108, 110 co-operate with rectilinear guide rails 12, 27 along the respective return and forward runs and with a cam plate 50 on transference from the lower to the upper run. The cam plate 50 has inlet and outlet tracks 45, 43 in alignment with guide rails 27, 12 and crossed tracks 112, 114 which guide the respective rollers 110, 108 on passage around end sprockets 54, 56 to effect said 180-degree reverse turn of the pusher. At the opposite end of the conveyer wherein the pushers are transferred from the upper to the lower run, a roller 132 on an arm 130 mounted on the shaft 76 engages a U-shaped track 134 to guide the pushers around the end sprockets 38, 40. The rod 76 is mounted in ball races 82 affixed to a place 80 mounted from two adjacent pivot pins of the chains.
