Abstract
1,174,532. Conglomerate compositions comprising herbicides. PRODUITS CHIMIQUES PECHINEY-SAINT-GOBAIN. 19 Feb., 1968 [20 Feb., 1967], No. 8007/68. Heading A5E. A water-soluble conglomerate composition comprising a herbicide is obtained by mixing the herbicide with anhydrous sodium metasilicate, Na 2 SiO 3 , in the presence of from 1 to 20% by weight of water and then conglomerating the mixture, the anhydrous sodium metasilicate being converted into hydrated sodium metasilicate. Specified herbicides are sodium chlorate with or without sodium fluoride and/ or a urea derivative. The composition also may comprise a water-soluble potassium or magnesium salt or a fertilizer (e.g. potassium carbonate or a phosphate), and preferably has a specific gravity of from 1.5 to 1.9.. Conglomeration may be effected by pressing and compacting in shaping moulds, or by water-spraying in a granulator or granulation drum. The conglomerates are safer to handle than the powder form of herbicide, and easily disperse in water when required for use, e.g. in clearing fields of stalks and stems.
