Abstract

[Also in Division G1] Apparatus for feeding thin web material comprising a feeler mechanism following the edge of the material and controlling the position of the feeding mechanism transversely of the direction of feed by a follow-up switch is characterized in that the web 6 (Fig. 3) is supported at the edge by a feeder tube comprising a stationary lower part consisting of rollers 14 mounted on U-shaped loops 11, and an upper part hinged on a shaft 12 consisting of rollers 15 mounted on pegs 13, the surfaces of the rollers being oppositely threaded to lead the edge of the web outwards. The upper rollers 15 may be weighted to provide stretching if required. The switch-operating arm 3 (Fig. 1) is pivotally attached to an arm 4 supporting two double rollers 5, spring biased against the web edge by an amount adjustable by screws 7, 8.
