Abstract
1,172,895. Disc mills. MASCHINENFABRIK HEIDENAU, VEB. 9 Feb., 1967, No. 6319/67. Heading B2A. A disc mill, e.g. for cocoa, comprises one or more pairs of horizontally-disposed grinding discs 4, 9 without grinding grooves in a fine grinding zone, both discs of any cooperating pair rotating in the same rotational direction at speeds with a ratio of the slower to the faster speed from 1:1.2 to 1:3. As described the discs 4, 9 are driven by shafts 8, 12 and disccarriers 3, 10, via gearing 11. Material is fed via an aperture 1 and ground material discharged by an outlet 7. The fine grinding clearance is adjusted by raising or lowering disc 9 by a handwheel and worm shaft 13. Blades 14 suck in air via orifices 15 to cool the material and eliminate moisture. In alternative embodiments the discs may have separate drives, and the disc bearings may be offset eccentrically. To compensate for expansions of the twin shafts 8, 12 the journals are made from materials having different coefficients of expansion. This maintains a controllable gap under varying temperature.
